Mazinaw Mystery Toque
This toque was inspired by the beautiful colours of Mazinaw Lake in Bon Echo provincial park, and by a story that comes to mind every time I think of my camping trips there. There are, on the cliff walls, small ancient cedars that have twisted around themselves as they cling to the rocky outcrops. The story I was told is that these cedars have twisted around trying to keep an eye on Mishipashoo, the water spirit that lives in the lake below. People say the spirit appears eel like as it glides through the deep waters of Lake Mazinaw.
I wanted to express some of the mystery of the twisty watchful cedars and the swirling waters left behind a sleek gliding water spirit as it breaks the surface of the lake then dives into the dark mysterious depths of the lake.
A feathered cable shifts gently around the hat as it glides through the rippling water of purl stitches.
Skills Required: knitting in the round, cabling, decreasing, weaving in ends
Size: This is a very stretchy, generously sized hat, so one size fits most. Circumference 20-35cm. Instructions on how to increase or decrease size included in pattern.
There is a link to a video tutorial in the pattern for the feather stitch featured in the cable on the Fiona Knits YouTube channel.
