Melt the ICE hat Machine Knit
Minnesota has a large Norwegian population. This free pattern is posted in their support. The hat, typically made of red yarn, is a very popular Norwegian-style hat similar to ones worn during WWII to protest loss of freedom during the German occupation of Norway. It is a sign of unity and optimism.
This pattern is for a mid gauge flatbed knitting machine.
The pattern assumes the knitter is familiar with techniques such as e-wrap cast on, mock rib, and full fashioned decreases and ladder stitch.
The pattern is a simple mock rib hung hem, and uses full fashion decreases. The hat is knit flat. It is seamed up one side using the ladder stitch creating a nearly invisible join. One skein of Simply soft yields a nice hat. This pattern does not require using a ribber.
