My favorite Christmas decoration in our home is our crocheted stockings. My grandmother made granny square stocking for me for my first Christmas, and I still have it. It’s a little weathered and worn after 35 years of use, but I still cherish that stocking. I have, in the last couple years, stopped using it, but I made myself a duplicate as well as similar ones for my husband and daughter. It just isn’t Christmas until the stockings are hung.

In my recent obsession with the Bavarian Crochet stitch pattern, I just knew it would make a lovely stocking! And, boy, was I right!!! I think this has to be one of my favorite Bavarian Crochet patterns to date. The stocking pattern is written for three sizes…a regular size stocking, a larger size, and a photo prop size stocking. The photo prop stocking is functional as a very large Christmas stocking, but it is large enough to use as a cocoon for your little one’s first Christmas photo session. And, since, no photo prop cocoon would be complete without a hat, I’ve included a stocking cap pattern as well.

The stocking cap pattern is written for an infant size hat. The notes of the pattern include instructions for making the hat through adult size.

The patterns also include photo tutorials on how to work the Bavarian Crochet stitch pattern.

Make a stocking for everyone in your family this holiday season! They are sure to be treasured for years to come.
