The Merry Mantle Christmas Stocking is a joyful introduction to the art of sock knitting—only bigger, bolder, and perfectly festive! Designed with beginners in mind, this pattern walks you through the foundational skills of sock construction while adding a few new techniques to expand your knitting repertoire. You’ll learn the essentials—working in the round, shaping the heel and toe—and then explore beautiful design touches like the Latvian braid and helical 1x1 stripes, which bring a charming twist of color and texture to your project.

This stocking is designed to look just as lovely hanging empty by the fireplace as it does filled with treats and treasures.

At first glance, a Christmas stocking might seem like nothing more than an oversized sock—but looks can be deceiving. This pattern stays true to the structure of a real sock, but with just enough adjustments to turn it into a Christmas stocking worthy of your merry mantle.

Whether it’s your first “sock” or your fiftieth, the Merry Mantle Christmas Stocking is a festive, skill-building, quick knit that will bring warmth, color, and handmade cheer to your holiday season for years to come.

The pattern includes measurements and stitch counts for three sizes: Large (14cm x 37cm), Medium (10cm x 23cm) and Small (8cm x 18cm).

Using Pattern to sell Finished Items for self or charity and/or as a Teaching Tool

In these difficult times, if you’re looking for a means to supplement your income, you have my permission to sell finished items made from this pattern, as long as you credit me as the designer, don’t sell the pattern itself or mass produce.

And as a strong advocate for continuing education and sharing the craft of knitting, I’m delighted for this pattern to be used in teaching or charitable settings. Simply purchase 10 copies regardless of size of class (a total of £7.50), and you have my full permission to do so—with my sincere thanks for helping to spread the joy of knitting.
