Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year! I love the music, the food and drink, the twinkling lights and the spirit of friendship and good cheer. I designed both the Merry X-mas Mittens and their companion socks, the Merry X-mas Socks to be fun, colourful knits that will hopefully help you really get into the spirit of the holiday!

One size. Finished and blocked mittens measure:
Length: approx. 26 cm/10.2”.
Circumference: approx. 18 cm/7.1”.
Size can be adjusted by using smaller or larger sized needles or thinner or thicker yarn. You can also adjust the number of rows at the top of the mitten and thumb.

Yarn:
Used in sample:
MC: Arwetta 138 (Geranium Red)
CC1: Arwetta 101 (Natural White)
CC2: Mayflower 1 class 2013 (Bronze Green)
CC3: Arwetta 147 (Hunter Green)

Approximate weight needed (if sticking to gauge):
MC: 20 g
CC1: 20 g
CC2: 15 g
CC3: 15 g

One ball of yarn: 100gr = 425 meters/465 yards or 50 g = 210 meters/230 yards. Or any other yarn of the same weight, preferably a woolmix for socks, for better durability.

Needles: Magic loop or double pointed needles size 2 mm/US 0 and 2.5 mm/US 1.5, or whichever size needle is suitable for achieving gauge or change size. If you use magic loop, a cable of about 60-80 cm/25-30” is sufficient.

Other materials needed:
Tapestry needle
A piece of scrap yarn in a contrasting colour
Scissors

Gauge for colourwork:
Approx. 34 st/38 rows = 10 cm/4”.

Pattern is available in English and Swedish.

Techniques used: Stranded knitting, picot edging, horizontal slot thumb, duplicate stitches, kitchener stitches.
