Merry Xmas Socks
I love Christmas! I love all the colours and lights and smells and flavours! It’s one of my favourite times of the year. And at Christmas I like to go a bit over the top, and really embrace the holidays. It’s not more than a month anyway, why not have some fun with it? With that in mind I designed the Merry Xmas Socks to be a fun, playful and Christmas filled pair of socks to help you really get into the spirit of the holiday!
One size, medium adult. Finished and blocked socks measures:
Length of the foot: approx. 23 cm/9”.
Circumference: approx. 21 cm/8.3”.
Size can be adjusted by using smaller or larger sized needles. You can also make the sock slightly shorter by starting the decreases on the toes earlier, plus you can make only 1 row of solid color around the text blocks instead of 2. If you want the sock longer, just add rows of single colour in every block.
Yarn:
Used in sample:
MC: Arwetta 138 (Geranium Red)
CC1: Mayflower 1 class 2013 (Bronze Green)
CC2: Arwetta 101 (Natural White)
CC3: Arwetta 147 (Hunter Green)
Approximate weight needed (if sticking to gauge):
MC: 25 g
CC1: 30 g
CC2: 30 g
CC3: 15g
One ball of yarn: 50 g = 210 meters/230 yards, or any other yarn of the same weight, preferably a woolmix for socks, to make them more durable.
Needles: Magic loop or double pointed needles size 2 mm/US 0 (for ribbing) and 2.75 mm/US 2 (for colourwork), or whichever size needle is suitable for achieving gauge or change size. If you use magic loop, a cable of about 60-80 cm/25-30” is sufficient.
Other materials needed:
Tapestry needle
A piece of scrap yarn in a contrasting colour
Scissors
Gauge for colourwork:
Approx. 34 st/37 rows = 10 cm/4”.
Pattern is available in English and Swedish.
Techniques used: Forethought Heel, Stranded Colourwork, Kitchener Stitch, Duplicate Stich
