  • Merryposa is worked in one piece from bottom up and the crescent shape is made by decreasing border stitches and needle sizes.
  • The lace section is a floral pattern with butterflies hovering above them. My flower design is reminiscent of doily patterns by grandmaster Herbert Niebling and knitted so that the flower is upright when the shawl is worn.
  • The distinct feature of this shawl, which gives rise to its name, is the unique butterfly motif I have designed using textured knitting, like lace knitting stitches by knitting designer Hitomi Shida. Beads are used to accentuate the motif. Alternative knitting option is suggested in my instructions for those who do not prefer beading.
  • This project uses various lace stitches and a bit of basic cabling technique. Instructions are charted and stitch guide is provided; there is no written instructions.
  • The project is suitable for experienced lace knitters; and for those who are adventurous to go beyond basic lace knitting stitches, reference to video clips tutorial for less common stitches have been made available in my instructions.
  • Instruction is for 1 size and possible to widen the shawl by additional repeat pattern. The sample size shawl was knitted using just under 700m of 2-ply superfine silk alpaca yarn. As with most knitted shawls, knitters may use yarn, needle and bead size(s) of their preference and deemed appropriate, to obtain desired gauge.
