Pattern Notes
Metaplexis Dickie is knitted top down.
Crochet cast on provides stable and sufficiently stretchy beginning for a classical 2 by 2 rib. Other stretchy cast on may be used if you have a preferred one. 2 by 2 rib is also can be substituted for any other.
The ribbed portion is knitted in the round. After it gets to a desired length work continues in stockinette stitch. The process imitates a top down raglan. The stitches on the needle are separated with stitch markers into front, back, hypothetical sleeves and four raglan lines. Every other round increases are executed before and after each raglan line. After number of rounds the stitches of “sleeves” are put on hold on the waste yarn and work continues on the front flap.
Front flap is knitted flat and shaped with decreases. After necessary amount of decreases leftover stitches are put on hold. After that the back flap is knitted exactly the same.
The last step is garter stitch border that will prevent all the edges from curling inwards.
Stitches picked up and knitted from the sloped edges and from waste yarn with a long cable needle. Work continues in the round in garter stitch. Some increases are executed on the sharp corners of the front and back flaps to make them lay flat. After several rounds all stitches are bound off with a Traditional bind off method.
Every step is shown in a video tutorial.
