Stellatus Hat is a unisex winter hat made with a DK weight yarn in two colors. Two adult sizes are available in this pattern.
Simple but striking colorwork pattern is inspired by classical Norwegian motifs. “Stellatus” means – “set with stars” and that is exactly the effect you’ll get from this fast and engaging knit. It can be done in any two colors depending on your personal taste and will result in very different and unique projects. Stellatus hat doesn’t require a lot of yarn in any given color and can be used as a stash buster! The fit is also adjustable. Pattern provides three versions – very slouchy, less slouchy and without slouch.
This pattern has a complete video tutorial in which you can see every technique. The version knitted in the tutorial is the very slouchy one. Other two versions differ from this one only by the number of colorwork rounds before crown.
In this pattern you also have an opportunity to learn how to make a faux fur pompom. It is very easy with a help of a video tutorial. There is also a tutorial for a fleece lining for the hat. If you have sensitive skin on your forehead or just don’t want to have an imprint of a ribbing after wearing a hat, or if your winter is too cold and windy for the knitted hat – give it a try!

Pattern Notes
Stellatus Hat is knit in the round from the bottom up.
Any two colors may be used depending on knitter’s preference.
Crochet cast on provides stable and sufficiently stretchy beginning for a classical 2 by 2 rib. Other stretchy cast on may be used if you have a preferred one.
The body of the hat continues with colorwork inspired by classical Norwegian starry motif. There are three fit variants: very slouchy – as in pattern photo, less slouchy, and without slouch.
Crown is shaped with simple knit two together decreases made in every row on top of each other. The result is a twisting and slightly gathered crown of a perfect shape for topping with pompom, but can be left without.
If you want to have a matching neck warmer, below there’s a link for Stellatus cowl. It is made from the same yarn and uses the same colorwork motif.
