This a small Faroese-style shawl knit from the top down. Worked at a loose gauge, it feels lightweight yet cozy and the shape curves gently to wrap around your shoulders. It’s the small shawl you want for a breezy late summer night or, perhaps, tip-toeing through a medieval castle at midnight.

The shawl in crescent-shaped with a diamond lace pattern worked down the center of the back. The “wings” are a modified garter pattern. The shawl is knit in four sections: Set up rows, top of back (section A), begin top of lace pattern (section B), body of the shawl using Diamond Chart for the central lace panel (section C), garter edging (section D). A chart is provided for the main central lace panel in section B and an optional chart is provided for the top lace part in section A in addition to stitch by stitch instructions.

Finished size is approximately 52” wide and 18” long at center.

Gauge is not that important but will affect the size and texture of the shawl. Knit and block a sample so you get a flowy but not unstructured fabric. My gauge was about 5 st/in unblocked and 4 1/2 st/in after blocking.

You can repeat the diamond pattern as many times as you like to create a larger shawl.

Recommended materials: 6 stitch markers and yarn needle.
