Like many of us, I, too, have a great love and fascination for the literary works of Jane Austen. These socks were created while I was rereading Pride and Prejudice and laid up in bed with ~the virus~ over Christmas and New Years. I love the textured, yet delicate, stitch I’ve used, and imagined the elder Bennet sisters sitting in their shawls listening to Mary read and knitting socks like these during the cold, dreary midwinter after the holiday festivities are over.

Construction:
These socks are worked toe up with a peasant (or afterthought) heel. I’ve included by step written instructions with pictures for adding the heel. Picking up those stitches can get a little tricky with the slip stitch details, so I’ve tried to make it as clear as possible for you. I’ve also added alternative instructions to help avoid dealing with those slip stitches if you desire.

One other feature of this sock’s construction I would like to highlight is the stitch pattern. Instead of using stockinette on the foot of the sock, I decided to continue with the special stitch around the whole foot. I like how it’s a little tighter and hugs my arches.

Sizing:
Seven sizes are included based on foot circumference: 6(6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9)” to fit an actual foot circumference of 7(7.5, 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5, 10)”.
Detailed instructions will help you knit socks that fit perfectly. These socks are meant to have about 1” negative ease.
