About the pattern
The Milano Hoodie is worked top-down and in one piece in ribbing (4 knit 2 purl), beginning with the hood. The top of the hood is formed first by knitting a square, after which stitches are picked up along the sides and the hood is worked back and forth in rib until the neckline is reached. A twisted rib section is then worked to shape the neck, ensuring the hood sits snugly around the neck. Stitches are picked up around the face opening and worked in rib to create a folded edge, after which stitches are set aside for the zipper facing.
The yoke begins immediately below the hood and is worked back and forth in rib (4 knit, 2 purl) with raglan increases. German short rows are worked at the same time to raise the back. All increases are worked to follow the rib pattern. Once the yoke is complete, sleeve stitches are placed on hold, stitches are cast on for the underarms, and the body is worked back and forth to the desired length. The sleeves are then worked in the round in rib until the desired length, the sleeves finishes with a slit cuff, worked back and forth, and bound off using a stretchy bind-off.
After the sleeves are complete, the zipper facings are worked from the previously held edge stitches. When the facings reach the same length as the body, they are joined to the body using a stretchy bind-off. Finally, the zipper is sewn in between the two layers of knitted fabric, either by hand or with a sewing machine, creating a clean and professional finish.
