Meet Milo, an extra soft and squishy baby elephant! Milo loves cuddling up on the sofa next to my daughter and watching a movie. He’s especially fond of pinching her popcorn with his long trunk!

The instructions are written in US crochet terms, with step by step photos detailing how to make the pieces and finish the toy.

The body is made in chunky chenille-type fluffy yarn with a 4mm hook, with the DK-weight (light worsted) cotton details added over the top. Made in matching yarn and hook the finished elephant will measure about 45cm/17½ in long from tip of the trunk to bottom.

You’ll need to know how to:

  • make a magic ring
  • single crochet
  • increase and decrease
  • work in rounds
  • chain stitch
  • slip stitch

You will need:

This pattern uses 2 different weights of yarn - a chunky fluffy texture for the all of the body and a DK-weight cotton for the details. If substituting for a plain yarn for the body make sure to use a thinner yarn weight and smaller hook for the details to keep everything in proportion!

These are the yarns I used:

2 balls/200gr James C. Brett Flutterby Chunky (100g/175m/191y)
in Lilac Grey (B33)
1 ball/25gr Ricorumi DK Cotton (25gr/58m)
in Rose (008)
4.0mm (G) hook
3.5mm (E) hook
30mm black safety eyes
