Spring and summer is ahead - and to celebrate the first warming sun-rays I offer a sweet and simple top for free for you to enjoy! The Milou cross-over top is a lovely addition to a small girl’s summer wardrobe. Used with trousers, a skirt, a pair of jeans it will be a true eyecatcher. Find your own favorite mixture of colors to enhance the small girl’s own colors or clothing.

The top is as easy as fun to make. The knitting would suit an advanced beginner as well as a more experienced one. There are no difficult stiches involved. Maybe the most difficult part will be to choose colors for the stripe-pattern?
The top is worked in the round, and bottom up to armpits from where work is divided for back and fronts. The right fronts stiches are picked up over the left front - easily done when you have a stripe-pattern to follow! Stiches are picked up along the armholes and the cross-over fronts to make the simple and lovely garter stich borders.

I used the Schachenmayr “Catania” cotton to make the Milou top. It comes in a huge range of lovely colors from soft to bright.
You will need 1 ball of each color working the 3 smallest sizes. For size 4 years you will need 1 ball of white, 2 balls in every of the pink shades.
You might substitute it for another cotton as long as you respect the gauge.
PS. The Milou top is named after my dachsen-dogs “girlfriend” a soft, boxy and sweet little westie! DS
