Mini Mr. Mallard
Say hi to this sweet little Mallard Duck — pocket-sized, satisfying to make, and just the right combination of familiar and challenging.
He’s made from scrap amounts of worsted weight yarn and comes together quickly. What makes him special is the optional wings, which use a variety of techniques to create a realistic feathered look. There are two distinct wing patterns (one for each side) so he always looks his best. No wrong-side wings for Mini Mallard.
The wings lean intermediate, using extended stitches, stacked stitches, and a unique hook placement to get the shaping right. A dedicated Stitch Placement Guide with close-up photos and a video tutorial walks you through every step of the wings. A great way to introduce yourself to new techniques in a small, approachable way.
The pattern is clearly formatted with a table of contents, photo support throughout, and a Troubleshooting section for when you need it, and includes a ~60-minute video tutorial walking you through the more technical rounds.
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner to Intermediate
This pattern uses basic amigurumi techniques, including bobble stitches, stitches of varying heights (hdc, dc), and simple color changes. This pattern assumes comfort with basic amigurumi stitches and working in continuous rounds. Optional wings lean intermediate (extended and stacked stitches, and unique stitch placement), but are very approachable with photo and video support included.
Terminology: US crochet terms
Construction: Worked in the round. The beak and wings are sewn on.
You will need:
