this tutorial shows you how to incorporate strips of mitred squares into the leg design of your socks. there are no size restrictions - you can make the socks any size you want with this pattern.
just use whatever yarn and needles you feel comfortable with. it can be 4-ply or 6-ply sock yarn or chunkier yarn to make house slippers. choose needles appropriate for your yarn.
100g of sock yarn is plenty, a contrasting colour is optional.
i have successfully made this pattern with 50g of self striping and 50g of solid yarn too - use the self striping yarn for the mitred square section and the foot and the solid for cuff, heel and toes.

this pattern has only been tested by me - if you find any errors or have any questions just let me know =)
