After finishing socks, shawls, or other projects, you almost always wind up with a little ball of yarn left over. Use that leftover sock/ fingering yarn to make this simple but fun hat!

The pattern looks intricate, but it uses only knit and purl stitches, and you only work with one color at a time.

With one main color overlying the contrast stripes, you can create a gentle color gradient or get wild with strong stripes of contrast color.

Yarn selection: Fingering/ sock yarn, about 130 yards main color and 60-70 yards total of the contrast colors.

Info for choosing colors: You will use the MC for most of the ribbing; it will be the color that looks like the overlaid mesh; and it will form a sort of star shape at the crown because the crown shaping decreases will be worked in MC. The CC will make a splash of color at the cast-on edge and be the background color for the body of the hat. This pattern works well with two solid colors or with one solid and one variegated. It looks best when there is a lot of contrast between the main color and the contrast color.

Size: Finished circumference of approximately 18.5”/ 47 and height of 7.5”/ 19 cm will fit older child through adult.

Needles: US 3/ 3.25 mm. This hat is worked in the round.

Pattern support: Designer email is included in the pattern in case you run into questions. And I would love to see pictures of your finished hat!
