Pattern Notes:

I needed a hat. I love sheep. That was the entirety of my “design process”. Sometimes it’s that simple. My colorway is bold, in-your-face, and easy to find in a snow storm. Adaptable to your own color story, this fun hat features stranded colorwork (from a chart) and the option of using duplicate stitch so you don’t have to carry so many long floats along the way. Choose your own adventure. What I love about stranded knitting is that it creates a fabric that has more insulation and wind-blocking capacity for your ears and head. If you have the basics of knitting down, why not make this your first colorwork project? A hat is small enough to try out a new technique. Don’t worry, I provide plenty of links to get you started and through the trouble spots!

Materials:

• Circular knitting needles (16 inch) in sizes 4 and 6, or needle sizes needed to make indicated gauge.
• Cascade 220 color 8010
• Cascade 220 color 8910
• Shepherd’s Wool Super Wash Misty Blue
• Shepherd’s Wool Violet
• Blunt ended needle for weaving in ends
• Detachable faux fur pompom
• Stitch pins

You may notice that my color story includes a mix of yarns that can and cannot be machine washed. Keep that in mind when you plan your own hat. Think about how you are willing to care for it, and plan accordingly.
