This money bag wonton amigurumi was inspired by the Chinese wonton (云吞) dumpling. Wontons are also a part of Singapore’s culinary heritage, as one of the many foods that were brought here by Chinese traders and settlers that came to Singapore.

During Chinese New Year, it is common for many Singaporean Chinese households to include wontons as one of the many auspicious foods on the New Year menu. There are many ways to fold wontons, and the money bag fold is a popular shape for Chinese New Year as they symbolise good fortune, prosperity and wealth.

Pattern Notes

This pattern is fairly easy and can be attempted by beginners. It consists of 3 parts: the wonton body, the wonton top and the chive string.

The wonton body is worked in the round and results in the shape of a round-based pouch. The wonton top is also worked in the round but results in a flat square. The chive string is a short cord which is tied over the neck of the amigurumi.

Finished Size
