As a closet red head I never saw my own fiery locks looking back at me from the toy shop aisle. Monica’s hair is orange. Red-headed children will recognise themselves in her immediately, but any child who gets handed a knitted witch with this much attitude is going to love her.

She is also the kind of toy that changes a child’s mind about knitting. One minute they think it is something adults do. The next, they want to know how.

Monica the Witch is a beginner-friendly knitted toy worked in DK yarn, standing approximately 23cm tall. She is made up of eight separate pieces worked flat and seamed together: a striped body, head, base, two arms, a flowing cape with an eyelet collar, a pointed hat with a brim, and very orange hair applied with a crochet hook after finishing.

The instructions are clear and easy to follow, and she knits up quickly. A lovely Halloween decoration, a gift for any child who appreciates a witch with a strong personality, and the kind of make that sits on a shelf and gets noticed.
