Welcome to the Monster Mischief!

Monster Mischief pattern includes five cute monster plus a bonus floor cushion pattern. This was run as a 6-week CAL, but all elements are now contained in one document.

The blanket is constructed using basic overlay mosaic crochet techniques and so is ideal for the adventurous beginner. If you have never used this technique before, I have also included a TECHNICAL ANNEX, which has instructions on stitch formation, hints and tips. It’s a great way to give this method a go.

The pattern contains specific pattern notes, the written stitch sequence and overlay mosaic charts.

Monster Mischief was inspired by my favourite video game in the 80s - Space Invaders. For the CAL, I wanted to create some monsters with personality and cuteness and so the Monster Mischief Mob developed! I hope you enjoy the patterns as much as I have enjoyed creating them. They are perfect for that little person in your life.

Measurements

The blanket measured around 43” x 59” including border using Stylecraft Special Aran and a 5.00 mm hook.

The floor cushion measure around 17” x 17” using Stylecraft Special DK and a 3.50 mm hook. It is shown on an 18” cushion pad.

Techniques

This blanket is made using basic overlay mosaic crochet techniques with all explained in the technical document. This document also includes instructions on creating the eyes. This is great for someone wishing to take the plunge into overlay mosaic crochet and there will be lots of help and support in the Facebook groups.

Yarn amounts

The sample blanket was made using Stylecraft Special Aran and a 5.00 mm hook. For the 5x5 monster blanket, I used:

  • Black (#1002) - 12 skeins
  • Cream (#1005) - 1 skein
  • Meadow (#1065) - 5 skeins

The sample floor cushion was made using Stylecraft Special DK and a 3.50 mm hook. I used:

  • Magenta (#1084) - 2 skeins
  • Lobelia (#1825) - 2 skeins
  • Cream (#1005) - around 10 metres

Always do a sample and adapt yarn amounts accordingly. The above aims to provide you with adequate yarn to complete the project in the yarn and hook specified.
