Monumental Mosaic Cowl
This pattern has four mosaic bands inspired by classical architecture. Who says I’m not using my classical history degree?
For my sample I’ve rotated through three colours, but the pattern will work well with two colours or many more!
The pattern includes suggestions for several ways that these patterns can be combined, including considerations for:
- working flat or in the round
- knitting in garter or stockinette
- joining the ends to make a cowl or infinity scarf
- changing order/repeats of different bands
My sample was worked flat, then folded over and seamed along the long side, then joined with one twist as a double-thick cowl with no wrong side.
Yarn: Two contrasting colours of any weight; sample uses light fingering weight yarn, approximately 170 yards/155m of each colour. Sample shown in KnitPicks Capretta in Thicket (Tan), Hunter (Green) and White.
Needles: Needle size determined by yarn choice and chosen assembly options; sample uses 3.25mm (US size 3) needles (knit flat and then joined)
Other: tapestry needle to weave in ends, stitch markers if desired
Sample Gauge: 28st & 52 rows = 4” in Garter stitch using the yarn and needles above. Gauge is not critical to this project, but will affect your finished size and yardage required
Finished Dimensions:
After finishing, my sample is 5.75”/14.5cm
wide and approximately 35”/89 cm in circumference.
Pattern instructions: Written and charted instructions
