Overview
Moonlight on Magnolias is a top down, crescent shaped shawl inspired by the beautiful Southern Magnolia tree, Magnolia grandiflora, that dots the landscape where I grew up in eastern North Carolina. It’s ONE size with an optional expanded border and uses between 600 and 750 yards (548-685m) of fingering weight yarn. Shown in Wendy’s Wonders 80/20 Fingering Gradient in Dream Land. Miyuki 6/0 seed beads in Crystal AB add a bit of sparkle.

Beads
Beads are optional and, as charted, the shawl uses 370-908 beads.

Size
With the expanded border, the piece measures 60” x 28” (152 x 71cm) and uses approximately 600 yards (548m) of fingering weight yarn.

Gauge
Gauge is not critical, but will affect the final dimensions and the amount of yarn used. It’s measured AFTER blocking in the lace pattern of Chart 1

Difficulty
For intermediate to advanced knitters. Stitches used include garter stitch, stockinette and reverse stockinette, basic increases and decreases, twisted stitches, yarn over increases and beaded stitches.
