Moriah

Moriah is a two-skein, offset, triangle shawl to be made with your most favorite skeins of fingering, sport or DK weight yarn. It can be knit in one of three color schemes; all in one color, two colors with two distinct sections or two colors with a fade. The shawl is comprised of garter stitch leading into 6-stitch cables followed by a wide ribbed border. A video is available for those new to cables by searching “Knitting Basic Cables for Moriah Shawl” on YouTube. The pattern itself is relatively simple so you can thoroughly enjoy knitting your yarn. I created this shawl so I could enjoy knitting some beautiful wool sourced from a Boarder Leicester sheep named Moriah who lives in Vermont, USA. I loved knitting every stitch of my Moriah wool and hope you too have a favorite yarn to enjoy knitting up.

Materials
Yarn: Two 100g skeins of fingering, sport or DK weight yarn, the yardage does not need to be specific as long as you have approximately 200g total. If choosing two colors recommendations are: skein 1 would be lighter or variegated and skein 2 darker or tonal.
Needle Size: 40 or 60 inch circular cabled needles
Fingering weight yarn – US 5 (3.75mm)
Sport weight yarn - US 5 (3.75mm) for a looser knitter or US 6 (4.0mm) for a tighter knitter
DK weight yarn – US 6 (4.0mm)

10-12 Stitch Markers and 1 clip stitch marker/progress keeper for Part 2
Small digital precision scale which can be purchased inexpensively on Amazon
Cable needle
Blocking wires and T-pins for blocking

Gauge
There is no specific gauge for this pattern. The important thing is to like the fabric you are creating. If you want to swatch for appearance, cast on 30 stitches and work several rows of garter stitch, then continue the garter stitch on the end 5 stitches on each side but for the center 20 stitches follow rows 1-8 of the Cable Pattern. This will give you a good idea of how the fabric and cables will work up.
