Mosaic knitting is a simple technique that looks fabulous. It is fascinating to do, as Barbara Walker discovered. Her book Mosaic Knitting is the go-to reference for all things mosaic. This pattern includes tips for chart reading and yarn handling that apply to all mosaic knitting.

Skill: Intermediate

Size: 20.5”/52 cm in circumference.

Gauge: 24 sts = 4”/10 cm in mosaic pattern knit flat and 25 sts = 4”10 cm in stockinette stitch pattern in the round.

Yarn: Worsted weight. Brim background (Black in photo) color – 55 yds/50 m; brim foreground color (White) – 40 yds/36 m; and crown (Christmas Red) – 84 yds/77 m.
Sample used Stonehedge Shepherd’s Wool.

Needles and notions: US Size5 (3.75 mm) for flat and circular knitting or sizes to achieve gauge. Locking stitch markers and tapestry needle.
