The Mossridge Sweater is a drop shoulder sweater worked top-down, both flat and in the round. It features a mix of Double Moss stitch through the yoke and sleeves and a cable motif through the body. The pattern has been graded for feminine and masculine sizing. Both versions are included in this download.

You will begin by casting on stitches to form the back panel, which is worked in Double Moss stitch and shaped with German (or your otherwise preferred) short rows to create sloping shoulders. You will work to the length specified for your size and then work some underarm shaping before leaving the back panel stitches to rest. You will then pick up and knit stitches along the cast-on edge of the back panel to form the left and right shoulders in turn, which you will then connect with newly cast-on neckline stitches in extension of the right shoulder. To finish the yoke, you will work to the length specified for your sizes and then repeat the underarm shaping. From there, you will join your work in the round and begin to work the cable motif through the length of the body. When you are happy with the length of the body, you will work the hem in rib before working a tubular cast-off.

You will then pick up and knit stitches to form the collar, as this will give you a better sense of how the finished sweater will sit and make it easier to adjust the length of the sleeves if necessary. Finally, you will pick up and knit stitches around each arm opening to form each sleeve in turn. The sleeves are worked in Double Moss stitch and are shaped with decreases.

The pattern has been tech edited and test knitted but, should you require any pattern support, please use the contact form on this website or email me at the.knit.purl.girl2020@gmail.com.

Materials and Fit

Notions: 3 mm / US 2.5 circular needles with 40-, 60-, and 80-cm / 16-, 24-, and 32-in cords; 4 mm / US 6 circular needles with 40-, 60-, and 80-cm / 16-, 24-, and 32-in cords. If you’re making one of the larger sizes, you may also find it helpful to have both needles with a 100-cm / 40-in cord.

You will also need at least 4 ring stitch markers, your preferred stitch holder (i.e., scrap yarn, a set of spare needles, or a cord), a darning needle, and you may find some clip-on markers helpful to track your work.

Tensions: 21 stitches x 26 rows/rounds in Double Moss stitch; 24 sts x 30 rounds = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in in cable pattern, both on 4 mm / US 6 needles.
