This sweater is worked from the top down, beginning with the back panel, which is shaped with German short rows at the shoulders.
Once the underarm depth is reached, the back stitches are placed on hold.

The front shoulders are then picked up one at a time and shaped with increases to form the neckline. The shoulders are then joined while casting on additional STS at the neckline, and then worked to match the length of the back panel.

The front panels are joined to the back, while casting on additional STS at the sides, and then the body is worked in the round. The sleeves will then be picked up and knit from the shoulder down in the round.

The colour work appears before the ribbing on the body and on the sleeves, and can be left out if preferred.
