Have you ever bought artisan hand-dyed fiber that you’ve handspun into beautiful yarn with long multi-hued gradients? Or bought a skein or two in a gorgeous gradient color-way?

…… and didn’t quite know what pattern would showcase its unique qualities?

If you’re nodding away in agreement, then you’re going to LOVE this funky Mountaintop Cowl. Hand spinning fiber into beautiful yarn is like climbing a mountain - every little step on the way contributes to a satisfying experience until you’ve reached the summit. Then it’s time to gaze in wonder at the view.

The Mountaintop Cowl will showcase those lovely gradients of color. It’s a simple rectangle, knitted flat, in a repeating pattern of zigzag stitches in reverse stocking stitch bands. It forms a tube when buttoned up, to keep your neck toasty and warm, or can be worn folded down as a collar.

A second variation is offered and gives a style option for smaller zigzags. Both styles can be knitted longer for looser cowls, or to create funky, long scarves.

PATTERN NOTES
The Mountaintop Cowl is knitted slightly loosely to allow some drape. Check your gauge and adjust needles to suit.

Always knit the first and last stitch of each row to create a selvedge edge- this won’t be indicated in written instructions on fully knit rows.

The stitch marker is used to keep track of the stitch pattern repeat.

The stitch count will always be the same, except when making buttonholes. The three buttonholes are made at the beginning of the cowl, on Rows 2 and 3 of the second pattern repeat.

Please note: Striped yarn will create a different affect: swatch first
