The Múli Cardigan is a top-down colourwork cardigan inspired by traditional Faroese motifs.

It is worked in the round from the neckline down, beginning with a folded ribbed neckband and a raglan yoke. The body and sleeves are worked in an all-over stranded colourwork pattern, with a steek added at the centre front so the cardigan can be knitted entirely in the round.

Once the body is complete, the steek is reinforced with crochet and cut open. Double-knit button bands are then worked along the front edges, with integrated buttonholes for a clean finish.

The Múli Cardigan takes its name from the Faroese colourwork motif “Úr Múla”, shown in the Undirtrøggjumynstur section of Føroysk Bindingarmynstur.

The pattern is written for Ístex Léttlopi and is available in 10 sizes.

It is suited to knitters who are comfortable with stranded colourwork and would like to try, or already enjoy, steeking and structured finishing.
