The mushroom cap slides up the strap of the lanyard to reveal a hollow stem. The completed lanyard stem will hold a standard-sized Bic lighter or similar. The whole mushroom is approximately 4” tall and the strap is about 28.”

This pattern uses American terminology. As in amigurumi, you will work continuously without joining and chaining 1 with each round. Note that the pattern changes from single crochet to half double crochet after you complete the base of the stem and the first round of the mushroom cap. Be sure that your tension is such that the mushroom stem is able to stand on its own while maintaining its shape. If the stitches are too large, go down a hook size. This won’t be stuffed and it isn’t necessary to create the tight look of traditional amigurumi. I recommend completing stitches by “yarning under” when you would typically yarn over; this will create a boxier stitch that looks like an X rather than a V.
