Myrtle Leaf
This pattern started with an 1848 knitting publication by Miss de Lorette. I fixed a couple of errors and added a 2-stitch twist in row 1 to better define the myrtle leaves. There are 8 pattern rows and a 12-stitch repeat. The pattern is symmetrical around the center of the 12-stitch repeat. This pattern demands attention as all 8 rows are “fancy” rows.
Although I describe a twist method in the pattern notes, ANY twist method - right or left - will work to help define the leaves in every other column.
Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, YO, k2tog, p2tog, twist 2 stitches (see note) and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
40 yards of Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 thread will make 10 inches of a 38-stitch swatch at gauge.
