Nell Cardross
Nell Cardross is a lace scarf worked in two halves from the centre out.
Nell starts with a provisional cast on and a section of stocking stitch. The lace transitions smoothly through three different stitch patterns . The shawl’s lace is based on the Frost and Heart stitch patterns created by Naomi Parkhurst.
Nell Cardross will look good in tonal or solid colourways. Because the lace is detailed, variegated yarns are not recommended.
A yarn with yardage of about 400 m (440 yds) per 100 grams is recommended. There are opportunities to cast off early in the last few rows of the pattern if this is needed.
The lace is unconventional and the shapes and arrangement of stitches are not like most stitch patterns. Being able to read your knitting will be a advantage.
The stitches which are used are single and double yarnovers, single and double decreases. Wrong side rows are mostly purled, with some knit stitch columns and double yarnovers which are worked as (p1, k1).
The pattern is fully charted and also has line-by-line written instructions.
This design is named for Nell Cardross, the heroine of the Georgette Heyer novel April Lady. The stitch patterns Frost and Heart represent the changing relationship of the heroine and her husband, from cold and distant to a shared understanding,
This pattern was tested by Rezo, yarna, katisha and Canberra.
