Prismatic is a stunning colorwork sweater that adds color and personality to your wardrobe. With its easy, seamless top-down construction and classic shape, it’s a sweater you can throw on with your favorite jeans.

The bold geometric yoke highlights contrast colors beautifully and is a perfect way to showcase a special skein you’ve been saving in your stash.

The pattern includes several video tutorials to help you customize the fit and choose colors, making it approachable whether this is your first colorwork sweater or your tenth.

Design Details

Prismatic is knit seamlessly from the top down, beginning with the charted colorwork yoke worked in the round.

After the yoke is complete, the work is divided for sleeves and body. The body is worked in the round to the desired length. Sleeves are picked up and worked in the round with decreases for a comfortable fit.

Video tutorials are included for colorwork, gauge, and fit adjustments.

What We Love About the Yarn

We knit our sample in Seismic Yarn & Dyeworks Butter Sock, a fingering weight merino nylon blend with clear stitch definition and enough structure to support the colorwork.

The yoke uses small amounts of contrast yarns while the body lets the main color shine, making it a great way to use leftover skeins or special contrast colors.

Fiber: 85% extra fine superwash merino / 15% nylon
Yardage: 437 yds (400 m) per 100g skein

Any fingering weight yarn with good stitch definition will work well. Tonals and lightly speckled yarns both show the motif clearly.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Seamless, top down construction
  • Colorwork focused in the yoke
  • Simple stockinette body knitting
  • Great for using small contrast skeins

Construction Overview

Prismatic is worked seamlessly from the top down in the round.

The sweater begins with the stranded colorwork yoke. Once the yoke depth is reached, stitches are separated for body and sleeves. The body is knit in the round to the desired length.

Sleeves are then picked up and worked in the round with decreases for shaping.
