This shawl uses slipped stitches and lace to create an earthy, feathery effect. Gauge does not matter and it can be adjusted to different sizes by knitting more or fewer repeats of the textured or lacy sections.

Difficulty: Intermediate. Techniques include slipped stitches, mini-cables, simple lace, and picot bind-off.

Pattern format: Fully written out and charted. You can use either or both.

Yarn: Light fingering weight in wool or another blockable material. Sample knitted in Knit Picks Palette (Bark). Testers also used DyeForYarn Lace/Tussah Silk and Tausendschön Handgefärbte Sockenwolle Merino Extrafein. Solid, heathered, or subtle tonal variegated colours recommended.

Needles and other equipment: 3.5mm/ US size 4 circular needles, at least 120cm/48” long. If your yarn is on the finer side or you are a loose knitter, you might want to go down to 3.25mm/US size 3.

At least 2 stitch markers. 2 are needed to mark the shawl’s spine, but some testers found it helpful to insert markers between every pattern repeat.

1 cable needle (optional).

Darning needle for weaving in ends.
