New Zealand Fern Folk
These sweet little folk are inspired by the beautiful valley of my childhood in the South Island of New Zealand and by Waldorf peg dolls. In the spring of 2025, I decided to make them some Backyard Hobbits Holes! Now whenever I am sad, I just think of them on my backyard hill and a smile instantly appears.
Supplies needed: Scrap yarn, set of dpns, 12mm wooden bead for head and pipe cleaner.
Happy Knitting!

Such a wonderfully creative and fun pattern to knit! (BrambleberryBear)
The pattern are gorgeous, very clear and detailed! It’s really fun to dive into the world of nature fairies and bring them to life! (kleinesundfeines)
The sprouts are super quick to knit, and there are lovely tiny details like the belt buckle for the boy and the Latvian braid on the girl’s skirt. They are simply enchanting. (deeni)
I’m so happy with my little Fern kids. It was a pleasure to make these little dolls due to the well written instructions. Natasha added a lot of pictures how to do the finishing and make all the little details and embellishments. (Binse)
All scraps and leftovers so quick very clear, detailed instructions. Multiple different options for hat/clothing, so really you are getting several patterns in one! (kandyknit)
Quick, cute little knit. I used different colors from a mini bundle. (Sbatty)
My fern fairy is only as tall as my thumb. I had so much fun knitting it. (MarthasHinterhof)
I became deeply absorbed while knitting these two little charmers! He’s a mature fern man, returning from roots long established in earth. Very rustic in this yarn, a good yarn for him! My fern woman also mature, has silver hair that I braided to one side, which is how I usually wear my own silver hair. (Lunufield)
