Please note the G hook in the pattern is the 4.25mm hook Ravelry pretends doesn’t exist.

This pattern was written for the baby with whom I am currently pregnant. Without going into too much detail, she’s not going to live very long after birth. I still feel the need to create for her.

Since the pattern was designed specifically for a baby not expected to live long, it’s on the small side. I think it might be a nice gift for parents with a little one in the NICU, since I’ve seen bears and such in pictures, and of course it would work well for a healthy newborn as well. If you want to make something that will last longer, you may want to consider using slightly larger hooks than the ones listed here—say a 4.25mm hook for the head and a 5mm hook for the lovey (blanket) portion.

I’ve made every effort to keep this pattern simple. Please note that though I use safety eyes and an embroidered mouth, this is not 100% necessary. You can make a lovely iteration if you have just two colors of yarn (use the same for the hair and lovey, and then a different one for the head), and you don’t have to embroider a face; you can leave it blank á la Waldorf.
