Newcastle Cowl
The Newcastle Cowl is the perfect blend of beauty and functionality. This cozy, textured accessory features soothing garter stitch alongside delicate eyelet rows. It beautifully combines warmth and style, ensuring exceptional results with minimal effort.
This relaxing project requires no purling, resulting in a flattering, comfortable, and easy-to-wear cowl.
When worn, the cowl resembles an asymmetric triangular shawl. For those who find styling shawls challenging, this cowl offers a practical, stylish solution! Plus, its effortless design makes it an ideal choice for thoughtful gift-giving.
You will receive photos and step-by-step instructions to create seven cozy cowls, perfect for any season.
The cowl is shaped like an irregular pentagon. It starts with 3 cast-on stitches and is worked back and forth in rows on the bias. It is shaped with increases and decreases, along with a built-in faux I-cord at both the neck opening and the bottom edge. It is joined into a tube at the back with an invisible garter-stitch seam.
Designed for fingering and double knitting yarn, this design also looks beautiful in sport or light worsted-weight yarn.
The full-size cowl requires only one skein of fingering-weight yarn, making it the perfect choice for showcasing that special skein you’ve been saving.
You can easily create a chic small bandana cowl using just one skein of DK yarn.
The finished dimensions can be customized to your desired size and the yarn you have available. Detailed instructions and size options are available in a separate PDF, “Design-Your-Own Newcastle Cowl.”
Yardage requirements for each repeat are included, making it easy for you to create a stunning multi-coloured cowl from leftover yarn.
Instructions, a video link and helpful photos are included for adding a new yarn and managing multiple yarn ends.
The instructions include stitch counts for each row, presented in a clear, row-by-row format.
This is a written pattern.
