Newport Rosecliff Shawl was inspired by the spectacular roses at the Newport Flower Show held every summer at Rosecliff Mansion in Newport, RI. The flower displays both indoor and outdoor are gorgeous. This shawl displays some of the beautiful roses in the lovely arrangements and the restored rose gardens. The yarn color reminded me of the lovely roses in an arrangement that won first place.

The shawl was designed to use 1 skein of finger weight or sock weight yarn. The shawl uses all knit stitches and variations.

The shawl was designed to use 1 skein of finger weight or sock weight yarn. You can use two different finger weight yarns with the variegated yarn on the garter stitch sections and a solid or tonal yarn on the pattern sections. The shawl uses all knit stitches and variations.

The pattern was tech edited by desertroseknits. Newport Rosecliff Shawl was test knit by Joanazinha, Lankelot, Kirstenhaus, and Yarnladee. Thank you very much!

MEASUREMENTS

After blocking, the shawl measures 58 in/147.32 cm wide tip to tip and 14.5 in/36.83 cm deep at center back.

YARN

The yarn may be finger or sock weight yarn. You will need a total of 448 yds/ 410 m- 454 yds/416 m.

NEEDLES

US 7 4.5mm circular needle 40” 100 cm.

GAUGE

The gauge is 20 sts and 28 rows = 4” 10 cm over garter stitch.

CONSTRUCTION

This crescent shawl is worked from the neck down with 4 stitch increases on RS rows and 2 stitch increases on WS rows. These increases make each row successively wider, so the shawl started with a tab cast on grows to hundreds of stitches.

SKILL LEVEL

The pattern is suitable for an adventurous advanced beginner to intermediate lace knitter. The Rose Stitch uses K, k2tog, k3tog, kfb, ssk and yo stitches. These stitch are all based on the knit stitch. The crescent shawl uses the Garter Stitch and 1 pattern stitch - the Rose which is repeat throughout the shawl.

NOTIONS

Stitch markers, 1 split ring or removable marker, tapestry needle, dental floss for life lines.
