Ni is the second day of the 2017 Advent calendar: twenty-four patterns, one a day, to learn to count in Chinese.

It is written 二: two strokes laid one above the other, the second one longer. It reads “èr” in Chinese and “ni” in Japanese. Tomorrow, 三 will add a third.

Like its character, Ni comes in twos: a pair of mitts where garter stitch triangles stack up along a small cable, from the wrist to the fingers. Knitted in the round in one skein of (Vi)laines “Tordue sport”, they finish with twisted ribbing, and the thumb grows from a gusset.

Ni est le deuxième jour du calendrier de l’Avent 2017 : vingt-quatre modèles, un par jour, pour apprendre à compter en chinois.

Il s’écrit 二 : deux traits posés l’un sur l’autre, le second plus long. Il se lit « èr » en chinois, « ni » en japonais. Demain, 三 en ajoutera un troisième.

Comme son caractère, Ni va par deux : une paire de mitaines où des triangles au point mousse s’empilent le long d’une petite torsade, du poignet jusqu’aux doigts. Tricotées en rond dans un écheveau de (Vi)laines « Tordue sport », elles se ferment sur des côtes torses, et le pouce naît d’un gousset.
