Nightscape is a truly unisex cowl with a simple but stunning motif that mimics the city skyline at night. The design was created for Shibui Knits’ new Nest yarn.

Nightscape is a great introduction to colorwork without the hassle of carrying two strands of yarn at once. The fun colorwork design on this cowl is worked using only one color on any given round.

The cowl shape is angled so that it sits wider at the base and more snugly (and “snuggly”) against the neck. AND so that the design is visible without holding it up over your face!

This cowl can be made in many yarn weights. The size will vary depending on yarn weight and gauge. It’s a great way to use up stash and leftover yarn from other projects! Make it in opposite color scheme of the hat for maximum efficiency of yarn usage.

Choose either main color or contrast color for cast on and bottom ribbing.

Mosaic (slip stitch) is fun and easy as colorwork goes, given that only one color of yarn is used at any time. The solid bands are worked in simple lace and texture stitches. Contrasting colors and a smooth yarn are recommended for the Mosaic colorwork to be vibrant and visible.

See this wonderful tutorial by Felicia at Sweet Georgia Yarns for working Mosaic colorwork using one of my shawl patterns.

The instructions are written and charted with explanation provided on how to read the simple colorwork chart. The pattern has been professionally tech edited and tested.
