Nija-shawl is first knitted sideways to form a long shallow triangle. The border is knit using the Old Shale lace pattern after picking up stitches from the lower edge of the triangle. The traditional Hap shawl yarn overs form a smooth upper edge.

The pattern has both written and charted instructions. There are two separate files with bigger charts, one is darker and high definition.

Yarn:

125-150 g of fingering weight yarn, 420-460 m/ 460-505 yds per 100 g

The samples were knit with:

White - Jamieson & Smith 2 ply jumper weight, 100% wool, 115 m/125 yds per 25 g
Charcoal - Knit Picks Palette, 211 m/ 231 yes per 50 g

The yardage is an estimate, you can knit the shawl with any weight yarn, but obviously the size and amount of yarn used will be different.

Needles etc:

4.50 mm/ US 7 100 cm/ 40” or longer circular needle
Stitch markers
Tapestry needle to weave in ends

Gauge:

16 sts x 36 rows = 10 x 10 cm/ 4 x 4” in garter stitch after blocking

Finished measurements after blocking:

Wingspan x depth: 239 x 51 cm / 94 x 20”
