This pattern is perfect for intermediate crocheters and Studio Ghibli lovers who want to explore a fun design.

All rounds are slip stitch (slst) to join. You can use other ways to join the rounds according to your own preference (such as invisible join, backward slip stitch etc.)

The pattern is written for T-shirt yarn with 8.00mm hook
Gauge: 7 sc and 8 rows = 4 in/ 10 cm
But you can replace it with: 5-7 strands size3 yarn or chunky weight 7 chenille yarn. Make sure to match the gauge!

If it’s not measuring up then use the last page: There is an extra page to adjust the pattern with a different yarn size.

Keep in mind if you do not use T-shirt yarn the bag will not be sturdy as with T-shirt yarn

I used for my second bag Chenille yarn weight 5 from Panduro garen Soft Velvet - zwart from www.pipoos.com with 5mm hook (Gauge: 13 sc and 10 rows = 4 in/ 10 cm). I got the same measurements by following the instructions on the last page.

for the body

• Hook size: T-shirt yarn: 8.0 mm.
• Yarn: T-shirt yarn (weight 7): “Hoooked Zpagetti Solid” T-shirt yarn (700 g, 120 m) from www.hoookedyarn.com. This website uses recycled yarn, there are no color codes but I used 1 ball of 600g black T-shirt yarn, around 50 g orange T-shirt yarn and 25g white T-shirt yarn. Each strand is about 3 cm in width.

Alternatives: Cotton/thin yarn:
Multiple strands of a different type of yarn. When using Size 3 yarn, use 5-7 strands to achieve the same size as 1 strand T-shirt yarn. 5-7 strands of size 3 yarn cotton/acrylic = 1 strand T-shirt yarn. Chunky Chenille yarn (weight 7).

for the mask

• Hook size: 4.5 mm (for the white mask) and 1.5 mm (for the details on the mask).
• Yarn:
• White mask: Bulky/12ply/size 5 yarn from Durable Dare Use 2 strands if you’re using DK/8ply/size 3
• Black eyes and mouth: fingering weight yarn.
• Purple design: embroidery floss or fingering weight yarn.

OTHER

• Stitch markers: Optional but helpful for keeping track of rounds.
• Yarn needle: For weaving in ends.
• Scissors: For cutting yarn.
• Accessories: Gold chain of 50 cm as a strap, gold metal swivel lobster clasp to attach gold chain.
• Optional: Lining fabric (to strengthen the bag) and a zipper (highly recommended). Make sure to measure around the bag. The outline of this bag was 49 cm so I used a black 45 cm separating zipper (that allows you to completely detach the two sides of the body).
