No Sew Black Cat is an easy to follow novice pattern for making amigurumi and perfect for Halloween, the pattern takes you through some of the basic shaping and each piece is worked in the round. It’s key features are that the cat can be completed in just one ball of Stylecraft Special Chunky yarn and is a no sew project meaning all the limbs, ears and tail are worked to the body using crochet stitches and the head is attached to the body using a safety joint, this allows the head to rotate round independently.
Additionally you will need a small amount of cotton yarn for the hearts on the soles of the feet and to stitch the whiskers. The pattern uses double crochet (UK) or single crochet (US) throughout. (Apart from the hearts, separate instruction is given).
You will also use the magic ring/circle, invisible decreases, increases, working in the back loop only, eye indentation and crocheting limbs onto the body. There are some ‘how to’ guides at the end of the pattern to help you along.
It is recommends to use 2 hook sizes smaller than the yarn calls for, this allows much tighter stitches which helps with shaping and proportion.
The pattern works in continuing rounds so you will need a stitch marker to place in your new round when you start. Pattern contains both UK and US abbreviations.
The finished cat is approx 25cm tall and the legs are shaped and positioned so that it can be independently seated. The cat can be crocheted using any of the stitch methods such as Yarn Under hook (YUH), Yarn Over hook (YOH) or the combination Yarn Under then Yarn Over (YU/YO). Any of these methods will allow you to complete the project successfully but each will give a slightly different texture to the stitches and the tightness of the work will vary.
