No Sew Unicorn amigurumi
No Sew Unicorn is an easy to follow novice pattern for making amigurumi, the pattern takes you through some of the basic shaping and each piece is worked in the round. It’s key features are that the Unicorn main body, head and all limbs can be completed in just one ball of Stylecraft Special Chunky yarn and is a no sew project meaning all the limbs, body, head, horn, mane and tail are worked together using crochet stitches. Additionally you will need a small selection of cotton yarn for the hearts and the soles of the feet, for the horn, mane and tail. Alternatively for the horn, mane and tail you could use an acrylic yarn up to DK weight which makes it an ideal mini stash buster. The pattern uses double crochet (UK) or single crochet (US) throughout. you will also use the magic ring/circle, invisible decreases, increases, working in the back loop only, eye indentation and crocheting limbs onto the body. There are some ‘how to’ guides at the end of the pattern to help you along. The hearts are stitched on to the soles of the feet so of course are not included in the ’no sew’ principle but its easy enough to do and they are of course optional.
In this pattern I have used the Yarn Under, Yarn Over method which is illustrated in the main photos of the Unicorn, you could just as easily use the Yarn Over method, the result would be just as successful, you will find it uses slightly more yarn but you should still find you can complete in just one ball of Stylecraft Special Chunky. The pattern recommends to use 2 hook sizes smaller than the yarn calls for, this allows much tighter stitches which helps with shaping and proportion.
The pattern works in continuing rounds so you will need a stitch marker to place in your new row when you start.
Don’t be afraid to practice, undo and redo parts you’re not happy with and most importantly have fun.
pattern contains both UK and US abbreviations.
The finished Unicorn is approx 25cm tall and the legs are shaped and positioned so that it can be independently seated.
