Some of the rod-shaped bacteria (bacilli) move with flagella, and some others cannot move. Those without flagella may come in more unconventional shapes. Here we have a coccobacillus, an intermediate shape between a coccus and a bacillus (as Yersinia pestis, which causes bubonic plague, or the Black Death), an Y-shaped bifidobacteria (Bifidobacterium sp., which is a good bacteria that lives in the gut of babies), and a bacillus with tapered ends (as Fusobacterium necrophorum, which causes Lemierre syndrome, a potentially deadly form of sore throat). No matter whether they are good or bad, all these giant amigurumi bacteria are cute, fast and so easy to make, and any microbiologist or biologist will love them!

You need to be familiar with the basic stitches used in amigurumis (chains, single crochet (US)/double crochet (UK), slip stitches, increases, invisible decreases; there are photo-tutorials to learn how to invisible decrease with both right- and left-handed versions, if you need them).

Yarn and hooks: You can use any yarn weight you prefer, you only have to choose a suitable hook so you can crochet tight enough so the stuffing does not show.
