Odemira vest
“Odemira” vest is inspired by the practical, yet beautiful vests thet shepherds wear all around the world. Odemira ia a beautiful town in the Portuguese area of Alentejo. I once saw an incredibly nice photo of a shepherd from Odemira wearing a vest. That image stayed on my mind and grew into this pattern.
The yarn I used, Abenaia_yarn is a family produced yarn, processed and dyed locally. Marisa sources her wool from local sheperds, making sure to pay a fair price &, thus, contributing to a circular economy, compromised with the environment.
The yarn is natutrally dyed, with local plants & using mountain spring water & the charcoal fire that warms her own home, ensuring a minimum ecological impact.
The vest is knitted seamless, with a modular construction that combines an interesting structure and a very simple garter stitch.
The pattern is size-inclusive and flattering to all body types.
“Odemira” is a seamless vest, with a really simple modular construction. As shown in squematic A, the vest is constructed top down, starting with the collar, which facilitates choosing the correct size, both for your yarn and your gauge.
Once the collar is knitted, three squares are added to form the shoulders. Then ussing short rows the vest is constucted before dividing for the arms, down to the body!
