Description
Odetta Holmes and Detta Walker are connected by a shared DNA but opposite in every other way.

This is the companion shawl to the Detta Shawl published in 2018. Detta uses short rows to frame a series of garter stripes. She is volatile, unstable and completely unpredictable with a unique construction.

Odetta in comparison uses the same short row waves but with a predictable asymmetrical triangular design and pops of beautiful color in each methodical short row sequence.

Both shawls are meant to use one full skein of your favorite yarn paired with a series of 4 mini skeins or leftover yarn (15g each color)

Both of these characters started with my discovery of mini-skeins at Virgina yarn festivals. Backyard Fiberworks had a bin full of their wonderful sock and 1 ply minis and I fell in love. From there my obsession blossomed and I began collecting minis from any festival I attended. It was a way to collect a slice of heaven when I wasn’t ready to buy the whole pie.

After a while these minis began to accumulate and I was also amassing an unruly amount of leftover minis from previous projects.

So the experiments began. I love that I can show off much-loved yarn from previous projects in this way or highlight these wonderful minis I’ve been collecting so prominently in a project.

This garter stitch project is a meditative project with focus needed only during the first few short row waves until you learn the rhythm of the short row pattern. It will be the perfect project for travel, sports games, social knitting or just episode binging.
