✨ Welcome to my Oh My Heartbeats Granny Square pattern!

The Oh My Heartbeats Square is one of three designs I created for a Learn-a-Long event with Crochet Australia, where we explored fun colour techniques.

This square represents how I feel about crochet—it fills my heart with love and gives me purpose, making my heartbeat with joy.

The design begins as a square, but with the included increment information, you can easily adjust it to any size you like. Create small squares to join into a scarf, wrap, or blanket, or work one large square (or rectangle) to make a full blanket without the need for joining.

The possibilities are endless! I used mine to make a cheerful backpack that’s perfect for the beach or as a roomy project bag.

With its simple repeat and minimal ends to sew in, this pattern is both fun and relaxing to make—and I can’t wait to see how you bring your own Oh My Heartbeats creations to life.

You’ll need:

3.5mm Hook, Yarn needle, Scissors, Pins, Stitch markers, Blocking equipment.

Yarn per square: 8ply yarn - I’ve used Fiddlesticks Wren 8ply Cotton 50gms / 125m

C1 = Colour 1 – Marigold W050 used 65gms

C2 = Colour 2 – Turquoise W045 used 10gms

C3 = Colour 3 – Aqua W047 used 10gms

C4 = Colour 4 – White W002 used 10gms

  Backpack Variation – Oh My Heartbeats Backpack using the left over yarns.

If you’d like to turn your squares into a cheerful and practical backpack, here’s how I made mine:

Make two squares in your chosen colours.

Join the squares together along three sides, leaving the top open.

Crochet a round base: Using leftover yarns, work rounds of single crochet (or your preferred stitch) until the base is the same width as your joined squares. Attach it to the bottom opening.

Add straps: Crochet long chains or straps in your preferred style and sew them securely to the top and bottom corners of the bag.

Optional finishing touches: Add a drawstring, button, or lining if you’d like extra security and durability.

And just like that—you’ll have a colourful, roomy backpack that’s perfect as a project bag, market bag, or even a fun beach bag.

Finished Size: 32cm x 32cm square when blocked
