For a long time I have been thinking about creating patterns that work for our favourite indie dyed yarns, but can also be made with more commercial and affordable alternatives, as not everyone is able (or wants to) afford fancy yarns all the time.

For these socks, the idea is simple: take any (sock) yarn you want and combine it with scraps which you may already have collected – or use up some precious mini skeins from your favourite dyers (psst…you could even use your yarn advent calendar if you have one).

The pattern is extremely customisable so you can mix and match different yarns, decide on how many colours and lace repeats you want to use, or add colourful heels and toes if you wish. That way, you can use smaller amounts of yarn, even for your main colour.

The pattern is very fun to knit as you have short interesting lace sections and also plenty of stockinette stitch to let your mind wander. As usual, my pattern is very much a “recipe“ which means I will give you my way of knitting these socks but you can experiment with different heels, cuffs, toes and make the socks to your liking!

I hope you enjoy these socks as much as I did.
xx Julia
