Sizing:
This crochet pattern is written for sportweight yarn for a tote bag with a body of 37 cm x 37 cm, and 32 cm straps (once folded).
It also includes instructions to crochet your tote bag with any other yarn, based on your own gauge swatch.
Yarn & Yardage
Sport Weight yarn. I used Scheepjes Unity in shade Olive Wrath (100 grams = about 420 meters). I used around 150 grams.
You can use DK yarn, if you’re happy to follow the instructions to adapt the pattern to your desired measurements.
Construction
The Olive&Vines tote bag is crocheted in one panel, and lengthwise, i.e. the number of braid motifs define the total width of the tote bag, and the number of braid repeats define the total length. We fold the panel in half in width, and then sew the bottom and open side to create the body of the tote bag. Then, we crochet the straps separately, and attach them to the body of the bag. Finally, we sew the lining and sew it into the body of the bag.
Hooks
4.5 mm hook for the body
4 mm for the straps
Gauge:
5 mm hook
Gauge: 10 cm x 10 cm in pattern (blocked) = 15 rows X 17 sts
Pattern for Gauge: alternate rows of blo slst sts, and blo hdc sts
Notions
Needles, Tape measure, Stitch Markers, Scissors, Blocking set, 2 fat quarters or equivalent fabric to line the bag.
